A Family Affair

I decided to switch to the midwives at the Family Birth Place in the middle of my pregnancy. After a bad experience and a feeling of being rushed in and out of a few visits with a larger practice of doctors, I knew I wanted the remainder of my pregnancy and the birth of my baby to be more relaxed and personal. Gretchen Cohen answered all my questions and gave me the time at each visit that I needed and she was always happy to answer my questions and concerns over the phone also. Waiting to be seen at each visit was not a problem either. Sue always took me right back as soon as I walked through the door. My labor was fast. Towards the end, when the contractions got closer and more painful, Gretchen kept my mind busy by letting me sit in the rocking chair and on the birthing ball. I definitely recommend using this big blue ball, it helps so much. Also, reading the book, "Mind Over Labor" helped me to visualize and focus throughout my contractions. Gretchen let me borrow this book from the office library when she sensed I was getting nervous the last couple weeks before I delivered. On November 14th at 2:21 am I gave birth to a beautiful second child, Keifer Lee Daniels weighing in at 6lbs 6oz. I can not say thank you enough to Gretchen for giving me a more positive experience and for treating me like a person through out it all. I will stay with the nurse midwives at the Family Birth Place. They came highly recommended to me and I will pass on the same courtesy to my friends.
