After a very disappointing
experience with my first child Ashley, I decided to see the FNM.
I was now due with my second child on May 23rd. My pregnancy
was uneventful until April 5th when I started having contractions.
It was too early so I was given a very painful shot, in all places,
my bottom!
I was told to take
it easy till after Easter. It was hard to do especially with
having a 3 1/2 year old!
On May 2nd after taking
my daughter, Ashley for a walk I was not feeling well and decided
to take a warm bath. My husband then left with Ashley to go toa
friend of ours. Of course after they left my contractions started
at 7PM. They were close, about 5 min then 4,3, and finally about
2. I figured I'd call the midwives and see what I should do.
Of course I was told
to go to the FBP. I walked all night. At 9am Dr. Khalil broke
my water. I continued to walk. Around noon my contractions slowed.
They started Pitocin around 3pm. I was only 7cm and very tired!
Intense pain had taken over the contractions.
My husband and the
nurses offered any asked if I wanted pain meds. Not thinking
I said no. The next contraction I changed my mind and took drugs
via my IV.
They really relaxed
me. By 3:30 Gretchen came back. She had left for the office for
a min. After Gretchen, being with me since 9pm the night before
I'm sure she was as ready as I was for this baby!
Just as she checked
me I was ready to push. But no one else was ready yet. In a moments
notice I had nurses in my room and ready to deliver. 1 push,
2 push, her head. Gretchen told me to stop for a second, her
cord was around her neck. Finally last and 3rd push, Katelyn
Marie!
So finally after 20
hours of labor and miles of walking in my slippers, we had another
little girl! Perfect 6lbs 12oz. Katie was taken to get cleaned
and I got a shower. When they brought her back I got to nurse
her. Everyone was so helpful with nursing. Katelyn was eager
to eat and latched on with no problem.
Now Katie is 6 months
old and still nursing happily! It is such an overwhelming feeling
of love every morning when she giggles when she sees my breast
and knows breakfast is here.
I want to thank everyone
at the midwives for making my second delivery such a wonderful
experience. Also, thanks to the Family Birth Place for the kind
and caring nurses that helped us.
If we go for a 3rd,
hopefully a boy, we definitely will go back!

and Katelyn Slivka
