My Decision to Change

After my 28th week of pregnancy I started seeing Gretchen and Sandy and was astounded by their care and concern they had for me and my pregnancy, compared to my prenatal visits with my previous doctors. Gretchen and Sandy really eased my mind about the whole labor and delivery experience as I was really nervous about everything, especially being told by my doctors that they do episiotomies to over 90% of their patients who are giving birth for the first time. When I finally did go into labor and I was 19 days late, on Labor Day, I felt so comfortable about my decision which I think helped make my labor easier by being more relaxed. Sandy was so wonderful during my labor, offering words of encouragement and making it possible for me to have the kind of delivery I wanted. I did not want to be hooked up to an IV. I did not have needles poking out of my arms. I did not even need an episiotomy or stitches. And I made it through with out any pain medication. My baby was laid on my stomach soon after birth and was not given any eye drops upon my request. Also, I was able to breastfeed right away. I am so thankful that there were no nurses or doctors running in and out of my room. There was just my husband, giving our parents an up to date report. Many people tell me I am lucky to have had such a nice experience and I tell them I owe it all to Sandy.
