- Listen to your instincts.
A little experience will turn you into an expert of your own
baby.
-
- Be willing to learn
from those who are more experienced.
-
- When it comes to your
mate, remember to be patient and positive. Communication
and support are the key ingredients to a smooth transition.
She will love you for it.
-
- Stand your ground.
Don't let anyone push you away from your baby. That includes
your mate, mother, mother-in-law, sister, boss or whom ever.
-
- Learn to become a
family together, just the three of you. Keep "help"
in the first weeks down to just what is needed. There is
a fine line between good intentions and interference.
-
- Don't get caught up
in obsessing on what you think you can not do. Your baby
is portable. You can take your baby just about anywhere,
especially in the first few months.
-
- Frustration will be
inevitable. Accept that now. When you think you are
about to explode, take a deep breath and step back from the situation.
Count to 50. Reassess the problem.
-
- Make eye contact with
your child. Babies talk with their eyes.
-
- Relax and enjoy the
ride. Make it a habit to play with your new baby.
Check out its tiny feet, let him fall asleep on your chest,
etc. It is the little things that count the most.
-
- When times are trying,
remember that "this too shall pass". Before you know
it, you will have a teenager on your hands.
