Exercising After Baby Is Home

For new moms, exercise often takes a back seat to more pressing concerns like sleep. But exercise can provide a new mom with renewed energy for herself and the baby.

Even short bursts of exercise, even those lasting ten minutes, can do a world of good. It is important to find an activity that you enjoy and that fits into your hectic schedule. You can check out your local YWCA, health clubs or look for a yoga class. Many of these places offer childcare. Post partum exercise classes may even be offered, but if not, start with a low impact class which has a long warm up session which includes some stretching. For those unable to get out the house, exercise videos are a great way to squeeze exercise into your day.

For the outdoor lovers, try hiking with your baby and friends. You can use a front or back pack to carry your baby. You may wish to invest in some fitness equipment, such as a treadmill or bike. It is best to try the equipment out in the store, before making you purchase. Used, less expensive, equipment may be available in the classifieds. Jump ropes, exercise balls, dumb bells and exercise bands will cost you less and take up less space and require little time to set up.

Walking outside with your baby in a stroller is also a great way to get some exercise.
